Abstract

If I get the embedding to work, you should be able to read my abstract here below!
I am planning on posting a few thing retroactively, including my synopsis and also my abstract presentation. From there, posts will be occasional until I start the serious labour in January. Once started, my intention is to post sketches and notes on a daily basis!

  2. My only feedback would be to maybe define the term "asylum seeker", and maybe the difference, if there is one between "refugee"...?

    Otherwise, very nice! : )

There are two reasons why I (in accordance with Migrationsverket) use "asylum seeker" instead of "refugee".

First of all, individuals denied asylum (about two thirds) are by definition not refugees, hence the denial...

Secondly, the decisions made by Migrationsverket are legally based on the "Aliens Act". The UN Refugee Convention (Geneva Convention) is an integral part of this and governs the Refugee status declaration. Simply put; persons with a well-founded fear of persecution.

However, beyond the Refugee status, there is also a Subsidiary protection status as according to the EU's Qualification Directive; persons facing execution, corporal punishment, torture or other inhumane or degrading treatment or punishment or; as a civilian runs a serious risk of injury due to armed conflict.

You see, a distinction is made between being persecuted and facing torture, both can be awarded asylum in sweden.

And finally, in Sweden we add the Status declaration as a person otherwise in need of protection; including persons that cannot return to his or her native country because of an environmental disaster.

Of course, in more casual language all of the above statuses would be called "refugees"...
